Rumour: Leakers Say Nvidia Has Stopped Allocating GB202 Chips to the GeForce RTX 5090

Two hardware leakers claimed on 10 October 2026 that Nvidia will no longer supply its biggest Blackwell graphics chip to the GeForce RTX 5090 gaming card. Nvidia has not confirmed it. Tom’s Hardware says “the company has yet to respond”. This is a rumour, not an announcement.

What the leakers posted

Unconfirmed (leak). At 05:44 BST, @hongxing2020 posted “5090 EOL, 5080 24GB ready” with an image said to be a factory notice [3]. At 08:02, @Zed__Wang, whose account is named MEGAsizeGPU, posted “No more GB202 for 5090, confirmed.” [1] Five minutes later came “All future GB202 supplies are RTX Pro exclusive” [2].

TSN read the Chinese text in the image. Tom’s Hardware renders it as: “According to a notification from the factory, Nvidia will no longer manufacture any RTX 5090 models, including the D variants.” And: “Going forward, the highest-end GeForce graphics card will be the RTX 5080 24GB, while the RTX 5080 16GB version will be discontinued. Please spread the word.” [4] Tom’s says the notice comes from “an unknown factory”. TSN cannot verify where the image came from. The notice is about manufacturing; the other post is about chip supply.

Two terms

GB202 is the largest “Blackwell” graphics chip, TechPowerUp says [5]. Guru3D calls it Nvidia’s “largest Blackwell GPU” [6]. The RTX 5090 uses a version of it [5][6]. “Allocation” means how many of a scarce chip a maker assigns to each product line. Stopping allocation to the 5090 would mean those chips go elsewhere.

Where the chips would reportedly go

Nvidia’s own page for the RTX PRO 5500 Blackwell Workstation Edition lists “84 GB GDDR7 with error-correcting code (ECC)”, memory bandwidth of “1398 GB/sec” and power of “Up to 600 W”. It is marked “Coming Soon”, with specifications “preliminary” [7]. The page does not name GB202. Tom’s Hardware and TechPowerUp report that the card has 21,760 CUDA cores, the same as the RTX 5090, and TechPowerUp says it uses the same chip [4][5].

TechPowerUp adds its own view: “I doubt NVIDIA would formally call this an end-of-life (EOL) move, since the chips are simply being redirected to a more profitable product line.” [5] That is TechPowerUp’s opinion.

What this does not show

  • An Nvidia statement. None has been published.
  • A known source. The notice is from an unknown factory, and “an unverified claim and not an official Nvidia announcement”, in Tom’s words [4].
  • Cards vanishing. Tom’s says RTX 5090 boards “are unlikely to disappear from the market overnight” [4].
  • An immediate end of life. Guru3D: “This is not equivalent to an immediate worldwide end-of-life announcement.” It adds: “The report does not say that GB202 production itself has ended.” [6]
  • A price effect. Tom’s and TechPowerUp expect prices to rise if supply dries up. That is expectation, not evidence.

The Bottom Line

Two leakers say Nvidia has stopped allocating GB202 to the RTX 5090. Until Nvidia says so, it is a rumour.
