AI Borrowing Spree Pushes Credit-Insurance Prices on Oracle and Broadcom to Records, Bloomberg Reports
Bloomberg reports record credit-insurance prices on Oracle and Broadcom as AI borrowing surges. What a credit default swap is, what "implied default risk" means, and what the numbers do not show.
Washington Suspends Microsoft, Adobe and Six IT Firms From the PERM Green-Card Process
The US Labor Department has suspended Microsoft, Adobe and six IT outsourcing firms from the PERM labour-certification process, the first step towards a green card. What the announcement confirms, what the fraud claims are, and what Microsoft says. Plus a pointer to TSN's separate post on Axios's report about AI companies' "day after" planning.
SonicWall Flaw Probed, Pwn2Own Pays $1.26m and Windows Update Deadline
Three security items from 8–9 October 2026: a security firm reports attack attempts against a patched, maximum-severity SonicWall SMA1000 flaw (success unconfirmed); Pwn2Own Ireland pays $1,262,000 for 98 zero-days; and Microsoft says Windows Update certificates expire on 17 May and 19 June 2027.
Do AI Agents Need Elaborate Harnesses? A Minimal-Agent Study and Two New Toolkits
A preprint from EPFL researchers, listed on Apple's research site, finds a single minimal coding-agent session matched or beat elaborate machine-learning agent systems in its tests. Pasqal releases skills that let coding agents prepare quantum experiments, and Microsoft makes 30 Dynamics 365 CRM skills generally available, with Autopilot still in private preview.
Custom HBM Explained: Nvidia’s NVHBM Moves Memory Logic Off the Chip
Custom high-bandwidth memory puts a customer-designed base die under the memory stack, so the AI chip spends less of its own silicon talking to memory. What NVIDIA claims for its NVHBM, what SemiAnalysis estimates, and what is still unproven.
OpenAI’s Revenue Run Rate Is Reportedly Nearer $50bn, Not $70bn: What “Annualised” Means
Update, 9 Oct 2026: Bloomberg reports that OpenAI expects to reach or exceed $70bn in annualised revenue by the end of the year, citing people familiar with the matter. That is a projection, not current revenue, and OpenAI declined to comment. The Financial Times reports that OpenAI told investors its annualised revenue was "approaching $50 billion" at the end of September, about $20bn below figures reported last month. What "annualised" means, why OpenAI and Anthropic count differently, and what the report does not prove.
Quantum Hardware Check: DARPA’s Final Test Stage, Universal Quantum’s $100m Round and New Error-Correction Results
DARPA has moved Atom Computing, Diraq, IBM and IonQ into the final, hands-on stage of its Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, and says it increasingly expects a useful quantum computer by 2033. UK trapped-ion firm Universal Quantum has raised more than $100m, IonQ claims big speed-ups for error-corrected operations in simulations, and a peer-reviewed Cornell paper shows a full gate set on a qubit that partly tolerates its main error. Plus a Jülich preprint and Infineon's ion-trap chips. What each confirms, and what is only claimed.
AI Infrastructure Check: CoreWeave Enters India, Bell’s 1.2 GW Plan, Applied Digital’s Debt and Meta’s 4,500 MW Louisiana Load
CoreWeave plans 240 MW in Navi Mumbai, Bell Canada's Regina campus could reach 1.2 GW with its own gas plant, and Applied Digital reported $341.9 million in quarterly revenue alongside $6.4 billion of debt. Meanwhile the bond financing Meta's Louisiana data centre hit a record low, and Entergy's CEO let slip that the site will draw 4,500 MW. What each company confirmed, and what is reported.
Duke and Indiana Deals Put More AI Power Costs on Data Centres
Duke Energy, Amazon, Google and Microsoft have filed a North Carolina settlement that makes big data centres pay upfront, sign 10–15 year contracts and accept some power cuts. Indiana approved Google paying the full cost of serving a 390 MW site, and a bipartisan Senate bill would make data centres pay for the grid upgrades they trigger. And gas equipment is being shipped straight to AI projects: a 380 MW Doosan turbine for SpaceXAI and 282 MW of Wärtsilä engines. What is agreed and what still needs approval.
Microsoft Execution Containers and AWS Strands Box Fence In AI Agents
Microsoft made its Execution Containers generally available on Windows 11 as it rebuilds Windows for local and cloud "hybrid" AI, and opened Surface Laptop Ultra pre-orders from $2,599. AWS open-sourced Strands Box, a sandbox that enforces rules such as "no git push" whatever the agent decides. What an enforced sandbox does, in plain words.
