Arena, the public leaderboard where people compare AI models side by side, says it has raised a $200 million Series B at a $3.1 billion valuation. The announcement is the company’s own. The numbers about its growth are company claims, and the leaderboard sits beside a business that sells evaluations to the model makers it ranks.
What Arena announced (confirmed)
On 8 October Arena announced “a $200 million Series B at a $3.1 billion valuation” [1]. The round was “co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Khosla Ventures with participation from Salesforce Ventures, 01 Advisors, Dell Technologies Capital and Endeavor Catalyst”. Existing investors named include a16z, Felicis, AMP PBC, QuantumLight and The House Fund [1].
TechCrunch reports that Arena began in 2023 as a UC Berkeley research project that crowdsourced rankings of AI models. It adds that the previous round was a $150 million Series A in January at a $1.7 billion post-money valuation, so the valuation has nearly doubled in about ten months (reported) [2]. In an X post, Arena said that it is “still a nimble team of 90” and that the money will go towards safety signals, agentic capabilities and modalities, and hiring [3].
The company’s numbers (company claims)
Arena says it has “exceeded $100M in annualized revenue” and lists “7 million sessions in Agent Arena in less than 5 months since launch”, “350 million sessions across the entire Arena platform” and “62 million votes” [1]. TSN has not been able to check them. TechCrunch reports that Arena said it reached $100 million in annualised run-rate revenue in June, against $30 million at the time of the Series A [2]. Annualised revenue scales a recent period up to a year; it is not audited accounts.
How it makes money (reported)
The public leaderboard is free for consumers. TechCrunch says Arena’s commercial product, AI Evaluations, launched in September 2025 and “provides model labs and enterprises with detailed performance analytics based on its community feedback” [2]. In other words, some of the companies whose models Arena ranks can also be its paying customers.
Arena calls itself “a neutral third party” that can measure how safe and aligned AI is [1]. That is its own description. Neither source shows that the rankings are, or are not, influenced by commercial ties, but readers can reasonably want to know about them.
The same-day alignment launch
Arena released a preview “Alignment Index” alongside the funding [1]. TSN covers it, with the limits on a vendor-run test, in a separate piece: Do AI Agents Overstep or Fib? Two New Ways of Checking. For the wider funding picture, see AI Money and Mood.
What this does not prove
- That Arena’s revenue and usage figures are audited. They are Arena’s own, and the $100 million is a run rate [1][2].
- That its rankings are free of commercial influence, or that they are tainted. The reported evaluations business is a conflict-of-interest question, not evidence of bias [2].
- That the valuation reflects anything beyond what investors agreed. A $3.1 billion price is a negotiated figure for a private company, not a measure of the leaderboard’s accuracy.
- That Arena’s rankings predict how a model will work for you. The company’s own pitch is that static benchmarks break down; the same caution applies to any single ranking [1].
The Bottom Line
Arena has announced a $200 million Series B at a $3.1 billion valuation, co-led by Lightspeed and Khosla Ventures (confirmed by the company). Its revenue and usage figures are its own claims. The business of judging AI models now attracts serious money, and it is reportedly paid in part by the labs it judges. That does not make the rankings wrong, but it is the question to keep asking.
