On 9 October 2026, Anthropic’s developer release notes said a Claude Managed Agents agent can now use dynamic workflows. It is in beta, switched on with the managed-agents-2026-04-01 beta header [1].
What the terms mean
Anthropic describes Claude Managed Agents as “a fully managed agent harness for running Claude as an autonomous agent with secure sandboxing, built-in tools, and server-sent event streaming” [1]. A harness is the software wrapped around an AI model to make it work as an agent. The managed-agents-2026-04-01 header is a label a developer adds to a request to opt in to the beta.
Anthropic defines the new term in one line: “A workflow is a program that runs many agents in phases and combines their results.” [1]
What the note says
The note says: “For work with many pieces, such as reviewing hundreds of documents, the agent can write a workflow.” [1] The agent itself writes the workflow, and, per Anthropic, “The server runs it in the background as a workflow run.” [1]
The note gives three steps [1]:
- Turn it on by setting the agent’s
multiagentfield to{"type": "multiagent_20261001", "workflows": {"type": "enabled"}}. - Guide the agent by telling it “in its system prompt when to start a run”. The system prompt is the standing instruction the agent is given.
- Follow each run through
workflow_run.*events on the session’s event stream.
What this does not show
The note gives no pricing, speed or quality results, limit on how many agents a workflow can run, supported models or customers. It says “beta” and nothing about wider availability. TSN has not tested the feature or read the linked “Workflow runs” page.
The Bottom Line
Anthropic confirms a beta way to let a Claude Managed Agents agent write and run a program of many agents for big jobs. How well it works is not stated.
