Albert, an Oakland, California company that makes AI software for chemistry research, said on 13 October 2026 that it has raised a $55 million Series B funding round led by the investment firm TCV.
Who invested
According to Albert’s announcement, the round was led by TCV “with participation from new investors Delta-v Capital, Socium Ventures, HighSage Ventures, Coral Capital, and Legion VC.” Existing backers Coatue, J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners, Index Ventures and Applied Ventures, LLC also took part.
Albert did not disclose its valuation.
What Albert does
Albert describes its product as a “chemistry-native” AI system for research and development. In plain terms, it is software that helps scientists who develop materials and products, such as coatings, plastics and household goods, record their experiments, organise years of lab data and ask questions of it in everyday language.
The company says its software is used with partners including AkzoNobel, Avient, BASF, Chemours, Clorox, Henkel, Kenvue and Nouryon. Albert says the new money will expand its chemistry AI to shorten development cycles and get products to market faster.
A big accuracy claim, from Albert itself
Albert also announced results for its own AI model, called Valence. It says its research shows the model is “45x more accurate than general-purpose AI at retrieving the correct answers to scientific queries.” That figure comes from Albert’s own research and has not been independently checked. Albert also says it built its own test for formulation chemistry, called FormBench.
What people said
“Albert turns decades of lab data into faster discovery,” said Morgan Gerlak, a partner at TCV.
Nick Talken, Albert’s chief executive and co-founder, said the funding supports the company’s aim of letting customers “build a world model of their unique science, one that is grounded in their real experimental data.”
What this means
- The round is confirmed; the valuation is undisclosed. The $55 million figure and the investor list come from Albert, which did not say what the company is now worth.
- The 45x claim is the company’s own. Albert measured it itself, and no outside group has confirmed it.
- Investors are backing AI built for one industry. Instead of general chatbots, Albert targets the specialised data of chemistry and materials labs.
