Chinese carmaker BYD has launched the Da Han EV, a large electric luxury sedan that now sits at the top of its Dynasty range. It went on sale in China on 13 October 2026, CnEVPost and CarNewsChina reported, and China’s state news agency Xinhua carried the launch the next day.
There are three versions, priced at 235,900 yuan, 249,900 yuan and 275,900 yuan, according to CnEVPost. Each is cheaper than its pre-sale price, set when orders opened at the Chengdu Auto Show on 21 August. The cuts are 14,000 yuan, 20,000 yuan and 24,000 yuan respectively.
How far it goes
All three versions use a 102.3 kWh battery, BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery. CnEVPost reported that the two rear-wheel-drive versions have a range of 1,008 km and the four-wheel-drive version 880 km.
These ranges are measured on CLTC, China’s official test cycle. CLTC gives higher numbers than Europe’s WLTP or the US EPA test, so real-world range will be lower. CarNewsChina puts the 1,008 km version at 816 km on the WLTP cycle, and the four-wheel-drive version at 713 km.
How fast it charges
BYD says the car can charge from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes, CnEVPost reported, and that charging takes about 3 minutes longer at minus 30°C. According to Xinhua, BYD also says it can go from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes. These are BYD’s claims and have not been independently tested. They also depend on BYD’s own “flash charging” stations; Xinhua reported that BYD plans to have 20,000 of them by the end of the year.
Other details
- Power: The rear-wheel-drive versions have one 370 kW motor and reach 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. The four-wheel-drive version adds a 200 kW front motor for 570 kW in total and 3.3 seconds, CnEVPost reported.
- Size: It is 5,256 mm long with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, and has a very low drag coefficient of 0.197, which helps range.
- Driver assistance: Every version comes with BYD’s God’s Eye B system, which uses LiDAR, a laser sensor, to help with driving on city roads and highways.
- Hybrid later: BYD has filed for approval of a plug-in hybrid version but did not announce a price for it.
Why BYD needs it
The launch comes as sales of the existing Han are falling. The Han range sold 2,529 cars in September, down 70.90% from a year earlier, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
What this means
- Chinese EVs keep pushing range and charging speed. BYD is promising a near-full charge in under 10 minutes.
- Treat the headline numbers with care. The 1,008 km figure is on China’s generous CLTC test, and the charge time is BYD’s own claim.
- Prices are falling before launch. Cutting prices below pre-sale levels is common in China’s competitive car market.
