Square Launches a $1,999 Self-Service Kiosk With an AI Voice Ordering Agent

Square, the payments and point-of-sale business owned by Block, has launched Square Kiosk, a self-service ordering kiosk for restaurants with a built-in AI voice assistant. Square announced the kiosk on 14 October 2026. ADWEEK reported that it is Square’s first dedicated kiosk hardware.

Ordering by conversation

According to Square, the kiosk runs on “an agentic, conversational voice layer that fully understands a seller’s menu and listens and responds in real time.” Customers can ask about the menu, get suggestions, change items and swap ingredients, switching between voice and touch as they order.

ADWEEK gave examples of questions customers can ask, such as “What are your vegetarian options?” Square says the kiosk can also suggest add-ons based on what is popular at that location or time of day.

The kiosk has a 21.5-inch touchscreen, detects when someone walks up, and has built-in card payments and a barcode scanner.

“Square Kiosk adds a third piece to the solution: intelligence,” said Thomas Templeton, Block’s global hardware lead.

Price

Square says the kiosk is “available beginning today for $1,999 with a Square Plus or Premium subscription, plus a $99 monthly software fee per device.” The $1,999 price includes a counter stand, and the total varies by the stand chosen. Square Plus costs $49 per location per month, and Square Premium costs $149, according to the release.

What this means

  • AI takes the order. Square is betting diners will talk to a kiosk as they would to staff.
  • Aimed at busy counters. It is built for fast-food and quick-service restaurants short on staff.
  • Ongoing costs add up. Buyers pay for the hardware, a subscription and a per-device fee.
