Switching AI assistants usually means starting from scratch. Brian Roemmele has shared a Grok Bot called Memory Transfer that aims to fix that. In a post on X on 13 October 2026, he said it “brings over what Claude or ChatGPT learned about you, so you don’t spend weeks re-explaining yourself.”
This is a bot that a user built and shared, not an official xAI product. Its page says: “This AI bot was created by a third-party user, not by SpaceXSI. It may act on your behalf.”
What it does
According to the bot’s page, it “Brings what Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI knows about you into Grok Bot. You review each item one at a time, and it saves only what you choose to keep.”
Roemmele says there are two ways to bring your memories over: “Paste one prompt into your old chat and send me the answer,” or “drop in your full ChatGPT or Claude data export.”
He stresses that “nothing gets in automatically”. You go through the items “one line at a time”, and each one kept “is tagged with where it came from and when.” In his words: “Other AIs’ guesses don’t become facts, and nothing you’ve already saved gets overwritten unless you say so.”
How to use it
- Open the bot page and add it. Go to the Memory Transfer page on x.ai and choose “Add to Grok Bot”.
- Bring your memories over. Paste the bot’s prompt into ChatGPT or Claude and bring the answer back, or upload a data export from either service.
- Review each item. Keep what is right and drop anything that is wrong or that you would rather not share.
Things to know
- It is a third-party bot. It was made by a user, not by xAI, and its page says it may act on your behalf.
- Data exports can be sensitive. A full ChatGPT or Claude export can contain a lot of personal information. Look through it before you upload it.
What this means
- Switching assistants gets easier. You do not have to re-explain yourself from zero.
- You stay in control. By Roemmele’s account, nothing is saved unless you approve it.
- Your old AI’s guesses stay guesses. Items are labelled with their source and date.
