Three Chinese government agencies have formed a joint investigation team to look into online reports that brake pedal brackets on the Maextro V800 broke, Xinhua reported on 15 October 2026, citing a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The statement is the start of a formal probe. It is not a finding that the brackets are defective in normal use, and it does not endorse any third-party test.
What the authorities said
According to the Xinhua notice, MIIT, the Cyberspace Administration of China and the State Administration for Market Regulation “attach great importance” to reports of “Maextro V800 automobile brake pedal bracket fracture problems.” On top of earlier preliminary work, they have set up a joint investigation team to verify the matter and will handle it in accordance with laws and regulations. Relevant information will be published in due course, the notice said.
TSN’s wording above is a paraphrased translation of the Chinese text. The agencies did not name a timeline for conclusions.
What Maextro is
CnEVPost describes Maextro (尊界) as a luxury brand jointly developed by Huawei and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), and as the highest-positioned brand in Huawei-led HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance). The V800 is an extended-range multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) launched on 5 August 2026, with launch prices from 766,000 yuan to about 1.016 million yuan, according to CnEVPost.
CnEVPost said Maextro stated on Weibo that it would actively respond to and fully cooperate with the joint investigation team.
Reported context: the Dongchedi tests (not government findings)
The probe follows controversy over a video published on 8 October by automotive platform Dongchedi, CnEVPost reported. Dongchedi said brake pedal brackets broke on three V800 vehicles during emergency braking tests from 100 km/h to a stop. Testers said the failures prevented normal use of the brake pedal and that they stopped the cars using an emergency braking function via the Park control, according to CnEVPost.
Those descriptions come from the testers and from secondary reporting. They are not findings of the joint investigation team. TSN is not treating Dongchedi’s test forces, distances or methods as confirmed.
What Maextro said about the tests
On the day of the video, Maextro said no brake pedal bracket base failures had occurred in actual customer use since deliveries began, and described the conditions in the video as “non-standard extreme test conditions,” according to CnEVPost. The brand said its braking system had been developed and validated to requirements exceeding Chinese national and industry standards.
Maextro nevertheless pledged to improve the bracket base design and offer existing owners a free upgrade, and said it would review design validation, testing parameters and production quality management, CnEVPost reported. The three agencies’ joint statement did not comment on the testing methods or on Maextro’s explanation.
CnEVPost also reported that JAC shares fell by their daily limit on 8 October after the video. Share moves are not evidence about the part’s safety.
What we don’t know
- Whether any brackets have failed in ordinary customer driving.
- What caused the breaks in the Dongchedi tests, if those accounts are accurate.
- When the joint team will publish findings, and whether a recall or mandatory fix will follow.
What this means
- A formal joint probe. MIIT, the cyberspace regulator and the market regulator are investigating the online reports together.
- No government verdict yet. The notice promises findings later; it does not confirm a defect.
- Redesign is Maextro’s pledge. The company’s offer of a free upgrade is reported context, not a regulator order.
