The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has published a one-pager, “Tokenization Service: Scope at Launch and What’s Next”, that sets out what its Tokenization Service is meant to cover when it goes live — and what it puts on a 2027 and beyond roadmap. Figures and feature lists below follow that PDF’s wording. The service has not launched yet. For timing, DTCC’s 15 July 2026 press release said the Tokenization Service would “launch in October 2026”. The one-pager itself does not name a calendar day.
Headline scope (DTCC’s four launch metrics)
The PDF opens with four claims for launch:
- “25 securities available to tokenize at launch”
- “~$30T assets available to be tokenized”
- “backed by securities held at DTC” on a 1:1 basis
- “24/7 intra-chain, peer-to-peer transfers between DTC-registered wallets”
Those are DTCC’s formulations. The ~$30T line is “assets available to be tokenized,” not a statement that $30 trillion will be tokenized on day one.
Networks: live at launch vs anticipated in 2027
Live at launch, per the one-pager:
- Canton Network — token standard CIP-56
- Besu — “DTCC’s private network,” token standard ERC-20
Anticipated in 2027:
- Stellar — token standard SEP-41
- Arc (Circle) — token standard ERC-20
- “+ Additional L1s and L2s aligned with client and market demand.”
So the launch rails are Canton and Besu; Stellar and Circle’s Arc sit on the 2027 side of the same slide.
Asset classes eligible to tokenize
DTCC lists three classes, each with a “starting with” qualifier:
- Russell 1000 Equities — “Starting with select large-cap names, expanding across the index.”
- ETFs — “Starting with select ETFs and expanding to additional ETFs over time.”
- U.S. Treasuries — “Bills, notes and bonds, starting with a select set and expanding over time.”
The 25 named securities at launch sit inside those “select” starts; the PDF does not list the 25 tickers or CUSIPs on the one-pager.
Features at launch
Under “At Launch”, DTCC says:
- Conversion orders via the Tokenization UI and API
- Conversion orders “available 2 a.m.–6 p.m. ET on business days, targeting 15 minutes or less”
- “Same CUSIP with the same rights and investor protections as book-entry securities”
- Wallet registration via the UI for select third-party wallets
- 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers between registered wallets
- “Compliance-enabled tokens with transfer restrictions”
- “Official books and records remain with DTC”
- On-chain U.S. Treasury servicing for distributions and maturities, “with payments made in fiat to Participants’ traditional accounts”
The legal and operational spine stays at DTC: tokens are representations of DTC-held securities, with books and records remaining with DTC.
Roadmap: 2027 and beyond
The right-hand column, “On the Roadmap 2027 and Beyond”, lists:
- More networks, including Stellar and Arc
- More eligible securities across the Russell 1000, ETFs and Treasuries
- Enhanced controls, including single sign-on and maker-checker
- Expanded asset servicing for equity and ETF corporate actions
- Consolidated stock record across book-entry and on-chain positions
- “Settlement and collateral, including on-chain netting and digital cash”
- Expanded onboarding of eligible DTC Participants over time
DTCC adds: “Prioritization will happen through the course of 2027 with Participant and industry input.”
Caveats DTCC puts on the page
The one-pager’s footnote is explicit:
The roadmap is indicative and subject to change. Service scope, priorities and timing are subject to the applicable SEC No-Action Letter and may change based on regulatory, participant and market considerations.
Three points follow for readers:
- The roadmap is indicative and can change.
- Scope, priorities and timing depend on the applicable SEC No-Action Letter (DTC received a no-action letter authorizing a tokenization service; the July release said that letter came about seven months before the July production-trade event).
- The Tokenization Service has not launched yet — this document is launch scope, not a go-live notice. Timing language used here is DTCC’s July phrase “launch in October 2026”, not a more precise day.
Background: July production trades
In July, DTCC said it had converted DTC-held securities into tokens used in real production trades across collateral, securities lending, Treasury/repo DVP, equity DVP and DVD, token transfer and CCP margin workflows, on Besu and Canton, with more than 30 firms taking part. That event was framed as a milestone ahead of the October 2026 launch — not the launch itself.
Why it matters
If DTCC’s post-trade core can issue DTC-backed tokens onto Canton and a private Besu network with the same CUSIP and investor protections as book-entry form, tokenised U.S. equities, ETFs and Treasuries stop being only fintech wrappers and start looking like FMI plumbing. The one-pager also draws a hard line: launch is conversion, wallets, 24/7 P2P and Treasury servicing in fiat; settlement, collateral, on-chain netting and digital cash are 2027-and-beyond items, subject to the SEC letter and participant input.

What’s still unknown
- The specific 25 securities at launch (not listed on the one-pager)
- Exact go-live day in October 2026
- Which third-party wallets are “select” for UI registration at launch
- How quickly Stellar, Arc and further L1/L2 rails actually arrive in 2027
What this means
- DTCC’s one-pager: 25 securities and ~$30T assets available to tokenize at launch; 1:1 backed by DTC-held securities; 24/7 intra-chain P2P between DTC-registered wallets.
- Live networks at launch: Canton (CIP-56) and Besu / DTCC private network (ERC-20); Stellar (SEP-41) and Arc / Circle (ERC-20) anticipated in 2027.
- Asset classes: select Russell 1000 names, select ETFs, select U.S. Treasuries (bills, notes and bonds).
- At launch: UI/API conversion 2 a.m.–6 p.m. ET business days, targeting ≤15 minutes; same CUSIP/rights; DTC keeps official books and records.
- Roadmap is indicative and subject to change; scope/timing subject to the SEC No-Action Letter. Service not yet launched; July wording: launch in October 2026.
