Kapital Agrees to Acquire Coding-Agent Startup Woz for $30m

In brief

  • Kapital (19 October 2026) says it has reached an agreement to acquire Woz, a Y Combinator-backed startup building coding agents, in a $30 million cash-and-stock deal.
  • For Kapital’s banking customers and AI stack, the deal is meant to fold Woz’s team and WOZCODE tools into Kapital’s AI-native platform alongside its existing OctavIA suite.
  • What’s still unknown: whether the deal has closed — the release announces an agreement only — and independent verification of Woz’s “patented token-reduction” claim.

Woz co-founders Ben Collins (CEO) and Brad Eckert (CTO) are set to join as Kapital’s Head of AI and Chief Technology Officer. The full San Francisco AI team moves over, with plans to grow that office over the next year.

What is Kapital buying?

Kapital describes itself as a global AI-powered financial institution and one of Latin America’s largest B2B financial institutions. Woz builds “advanced coding agents for complex business use cases”; its flagship WOZCODE, per the companies, “uses patented token-reduction technology to augment frontier coding models from Anthropic and OpenAI.”

Why does Kapital say it matters?

CEO and co-founder René Saúl said acquiring Woz would take Kapital’s AI platform “to the next level” for banking and enterprise financial operations. Collins said Kapital’s datasets plus Woz’s technology would set “a new standard for intelligent financial operations.”

Under the new technical leadership, Kapital says it will develop next-generation models and products for enterprise-grade finance, expanding OctavIA’s live scoring, underwriting, risk and customer intelligence.

How does this fit recent funding?

In September, Kapital announced $125 million in new financing from Tru Arrow Partners and Fasanara Capital, with Cervin Ventures, Niya Partners and Overlook Capital also participating. The release ties that raise and the Woz deal to faster product innovation and expansion in Mexico, the United States and other markets.

Woz’s about blurb also says customers have saved “more than $2.5 million” since launch — a company figure, not independently verified here.

Who is affected?

  • Kapital business customers who may see new agentic coding / ops tools inside the bank stack
  • Woz / WOZCODE users if product roadmaps shift under bank ownership
  • LatAm and US fintech peers watching AI M&A into regulated banking platforms

Our read

A bank buying a coding-agent shop for $30m is a bet that developer-style agents belong inside underwriting and ops, not only in IDE sidebars. The open questions are closing and substance: agreement language leaves completion unconfirmed, and “patented token-reduction” should stay labelled as Woz’s claim until filings or patents are checked. Watch whether OctavIA and WOZCODE merge into one product story or stay separate brands.

What’s still unknown?

  • Closing date and any regulatory conditions
  • How WOZCODE will ship inside Kapital’s apps
  • Independent detail on the token-reduction patents
