Apple Gets the Right to Hire Huxe Staff and License Its Technology, a European Commission Filing Reportedly Shows

Apple has agreed a deal that lets it make job offers to certain employees of Huxe, an AI audio start-up that shut down its app in May, and take a licence to Huxe’s technology. MacRumors reported it on 9 October 2026, citing a European Commission filing. It is not a purchase of the company.

Primary source for the filing’s contents is MacRumors [1]. TSN has not read the Commission’s entry itself, so treat the filing’s details as reported.

What the filing says

Reported (MacRumors). MacRumors says the filing states that Apple “will have the right to make employment offers to certain Huxe employees and receive a non-exclusive license to the company’s intellectual property”. MacRumors adds that this means it “isn’t an outright acquisition of the company”. It says Apple notified the Commission of the arrangement on 9 June [1].

Two other outlets, AppDook and XenoSpectrum, say they read the entry in the Commission’s public list of acquisitions that large platform companies must report under Article 14 of the Digital Markets Act. They describe it the same way [3][4]. That is their account, not something TSN checked.

What a non-exclusive licence means

A licence lets someone use a company’s technology without owning it. “Non-exclusive” means the owner can in principle let others use it too.

What the filing does not say

MacRumors says the filing “does not say which employees Apple could recruit, nor does it confirm whether anyone has actually been hired” [1]. No source TSN read gives a price, a headcount or any Apple plan for the technology, and TSN found no Apple comment. TSN will not guess what Apple might build.

Who Huxe was

Reported (MacRumors). Huxe was founded by Raiza Martin, Jason Spielman and Stephen Hughes, who previously worked on Google’s NotebookLM. Its app produced personalised audio briefings from a user’s email, calendar and interests, and let listeners interrupt the AI hosts with questions [1].

Confirmed (Huxe’s own notice). On 21 May 2026 Huxe wrote: “We’ve made the decision to wind down Huxe. The team is moving on to new things, and we won’t be continuing development of the product.” It said the app would be removed from the App Store and Google Play that day, and that service would end on 28 May at 10am Pacific time [2].

The Bottom Line

Apple has reportedly secured hiring rights and a non-exclusive licence from a company that had already switched its product off. Beyond that, nothing is confirmed: no named staff, no confirmed hires, no stated purpose.
