On 9 October 2026, OpenAI’s developer and ChatGPT accounts announced two changes on X. Codex, OpenAI’s coding tool, can now suggest your next message, in beta for Pro users. And “dots”, ChatGPT’s always-on agents, can now be created from a phone and can start work in Codex.

What Codex is
OpenAI’s Codex page is headed “AI Coding Partner from OpenAI” and says “Codex runs many agents in parallel, using computer and browser tools to verify work until your requirements are met” [1]. OpenAI’s changelog says Codex is now part of the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS and Windows [2].
Composer predictions: confirmed beta for Pro
The composer is the message box. OpenAI Developers wrote: “Now in beta: composer predictions in Codex for Pro users. Codex can now suggest your next message based on your conversation and how you talk to it.” [3] A follow-up says: “Available in beta for Pro users in the Codex desktop app, for local tasks.” You press Tab to accept a suggestion, edit it if needed, then send, and you “can turn composer predictions off in Settings” [4].
OpenAI’s help page adds detail. It covers personal ChatGPT Pro plans, local and SSH threads, and the GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol models. Predictions are on by default for eligible users. The composer “may choose to skip a prediction”, and accepting one “does not send the message for you” [5].
What it costs: a staff post and a help page. Thibault Sottiaux, an OpenAI staff member (@thsottiaux), wrote: “Included in the Pro plans without consuming usage.” [6] That is a staff post, not an official pricing statement. OpenAI’s help page says that during the beta, predictions are “included at no additional cost for eligible Pro users” and that generating them “doesn’t count toward your Codex usage limits”. Sending a message, including an accepted prediction, uses limits as normal [5]. Check OpenAI’s plan page for current terms.
Dots: mobile creation and Codex delegation
OpenAI describes a dot as “an always-on agent in ChatGPT that can help you take a project from an idea to work you can use” [7]. ChatGPT’s post says: “you can now create your dot straight from your phone in the ChatGPT app on iOS and Android.” [8] One OpenAI help page still says dots cannot be created on mobile [7]. OpenAI’s Learn page says they can [9], and TSN follows it and the post.
A second post says: “Your dot can now start work in Codex and follow up on existing threads, drawing on your ChatGPT conversations, Codex threads, and automations.” [10] OpenAI’s Learn page says a dot can create Codex tasks on a connected computer and continue existing local Codex tasks [9]. OpenAI lists dots for Pro users outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland, plus Business Premium and, if an admin enables them, Enterprise [9].
What we could not confirm
OpenAI’s changelog had no entry for either change when TSN read it, and TSN has not tested either feature. For the earlier days of OpenAI’s “28 days” run, see TSN’s Day 1-4 post, its Codex Auto-review item and the GPT-6.1 Sol explainer.
The Bottom Line
OpenAI confirms composer predictions as a Pro beta that suggests, but does not send, your next Codex message. It also confirms that dots can be created on phones and can hand work to Codex. The no-extra-usage line began as a staff post; OpenAI’s help page now states beta terms.
