Waymo has opened its robotaxi service to the general public in three more US cities. “Starting today, anyone in San Antonio, San Diego, and Tampa can download the Waymo app and hail a fully autonomous ride, including the San Antonio International Airport,” the company said in a blog post on 14 October 2026.
Waymo first started service in these cities earlier this year. It says it has “welcomed hundreds of thousands of riders in these cities” since then. That is Waymo’s own figure, and it covers all three cities together; the company did not give numbers for each city.
Rides to San Antonio’s airport
According to Waymo’s help page, riders can be picked up and dropped off curbside at Departures at Terminals A and B, and at the rideshare zone on the Arrivals level.
“Waymo offering fully autonomous rides at the airport marks a significant milestone for Waymo, our city and travelers,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports for the City of San Antonio Aviation, in Waymo’s post.
Local backers
Waymo’s post also quotes community groups. “Transportation is the lifeline of independence for older adults,” said Bob Kelly, founder and CEO of the San Diego Seniors Community Foundation. In Tampa, Scott Young, board chair of Lighthouse for the Blind & Low Vision, said: “With Waymo, they get their independence back.”
What this means
- No more waiting lists. Anyone in the three cities can now download the app and ride.
- Airport trips are included. San Antonio International Airport is part of the service.
- Waymo keeps expanding. The move follows its recent launch of airport rides in Nashville.
