A worker has died after an explosion at Intel’s chip plant in Kiryat Gat, southern Israel, on Wednesday afternoon, 14 October 2026. According to the Times of Israel’s latest report, the blast “killed one worker and seriously injured two others.” Other outlets have reported different figures, and the toll may change as more information comes out.
The identities of the workers have not been made public.
What the authorities said
Police said “a gas cylinder appeared to have exploded at the plant,” the Times of Israel reported. It said there were “no apparent suspicions that the blast was the result of an attack or other hostile act.” Police were also looking into a possible leak of hazardous materials.
The Fire and Rescue Service said the blast likely caused a leak of nitrogen trifluoride, a colourless gas that is toxic to breathe in, according to the Times of Israel. The service said it had sent units trained to deal with hazardous materials and asked the public not to approach the area. The Kiryat Gat municipality also told residents to stay away.
According to the Magen David Adom ambulance service, all three workers suffered severe burns. Two were resuscitated by medics, MDA said. “One man later died of his wounds,” the Times of Israel reported.
Intel
Intel has not made any statement about the victims or about any effect on production at the site, Tom’s Hardware reported. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated.
