Notion has rebuilt its AI agents so they can work on a single task for up to 24 hours, with their own computer and browser. In its release notes for 19 October 2026, the company said: “Notion Agents now have their own computer and browser, smarter context management, and a new ‘Review for me’ mode with safety checks.” It also upgraded Auto, its model router, and introduced a new credit system for all AI usage.
The headline claim is about cost. Notion says that, across more than 20 common tasks, Auto “delivered results similar to Opus 5.5 and Astra at about 90% lower average cost”, so credits “go about 10× further”. That is Notion’s own benchmark, not an independent test. The changes matter because Notion is positioning itself as a shared workspace and memory layer that many different AI agents can use.
In brief
- Notion says its agents now have their own computer and browser, a “Review for me” safety mode, and can work on tasks for up to 24 hours.
- Notion claims its upgraded Auto router matched Opus 5.5 and Astra at about 90% lower average cost across 20+ tasks, on its own testing.
- Users can connect ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Go plans; Bring Your Own Key is in private alpha for Enterprise, and an AI Command Center is “coming soon”.
Agents, rebuilt again
In a blog post alongside the release, Notion said this is the sixth generation of its agent harness. Tasks that could once run for five minutes can now run for more than 24 hours, it says. Each session runs on a dedicated service with a queue-backed worker loop, so work continues through restarts.
With their own computer, agents can write short scripts to run as code, which Notion says is faster, cheaper and better quality than doing the same work with language-model tokens. Agents also compact long conversations and offload large tool results, so less is reread at each step. The new “Review for me” mode uses a separate model to check whether an action is safe before the agent takes it.
Notion says agents run up to 50% faster on web and mobile, that its infrastructure uptime is now above 99.9%, and that Custom Agent runs cost about 30% less in its testing. Shir, Notion’s head of AI and core product, told a team meeting: “To support long-running threads in a way that wouldn’t blow through credits, we knew we needed to pair them with significant efficiency gains.”
A router that picks the model
Auto reads each task and sends it to the model that best balances quality, speed and cost, according to Notion. Simple requests go to fast, efficient models, while longer work such as analysis or multi-step agent runs goes to more capable ones. “If it gets stuck, it changes course,” the release notes say, re-routing to a different model when one is not making progress.
Notion also wants users to bring AI they already pay for. “Connect your ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Go plan to your personal Notion Agent. Or Bring Your Own Key (now in private alpha for Ent),” the release says. The ChatGPT connection works with the personal Notion Agent to start, not Custom Agents.
MCP, credits and controls
“Notion MCP is our fastest-growing product ever,” the company says. It has overhauled the server so outside agents, which it names as including ChatGPT, Claude, Grokbot and Muse, can use Notion as a shared brain. “Memory sync is live today, with skills via MCP coming soon.”
Notion is also bringing all AI usage under “a new credit system for Notion AI”. According to the blog, Business and Enterprise seats include 1,500 Standard credits a month, for work where Notion picks the model, and 500 Select credits, for choosing a model or running Custom Agents. Admins can buy more, though neither post gives prices. The system is live for new customers now; existing customers move over on 2 November, Notion says.
The AI Command Center is not yet available. Notion says it will show usage by person, feature and agent, set spending limits and alerts, and let admins decide which models and agents a team can use.
Our read
Long-running agents with their own computer are now table stakes in agent tooling, and Notion’s advantage is the context it already holds in users’ workspaces. The 90% saving is the company’s own measure, and without credit prices it is hard to judge what teams will actually pay. The real test comes on 2 November, when existing customers move to the new system and admins get the controls Notion has promised.
