EDB Acquires Altinity to Pair Postgres With ClickHouse

EnterpriseDB announced on 5 November 2026 that it has acquired Altinity, the independent ClickHouse software specialist, to put Postgres and ClickHouse expertise on one sovereign AI data stack. The deal is set out in an EDB press release and a same-day Altinity note from chief executive Robert Hodges. Neither primary discloses a purchase price; TSN is not inventing one.

Altinity becomes EDB’s Real-Time Analytics group, reporting to EDB chief executive Kevin Dallas. Customer contracts, SLAs, products and support stay the same, both sides say, and Altinity’s entire management team remains. EDB plans to introduce integrated enterprise ClickHouse capabilities in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Dallas said: “Having these two engines together in one multi-model data layer radically reduces costs for customers.” Hodges framed the move as keeping Altinity’s ClickHouse customers supported while joining EDB’s broader Postgres AI vision.

What Altinity brings — and what stays the same

Founded in 2017, Altinity sells enterprise builds, managed services and support for open-source ClickHouse software. EDB lists Altinity customers including The Trade Desk, Tubi, Kong, AppsFlyer, ZoomInfo and PostHog. The Altinity Kubernetes Operator has more than 108 million Docker Hub pulls, EDB said — a company metric for adoption, not revenue.

Portfolio pieces named in the release include Altinity Stable Builds (with long-term support and FIPS-compatible options), Antalya Builds, the Kubernetes Operator and Altinity.Cloud for deployments in customers’ own cloud accounts. Hodges stresses continuity: same engineers, same channels, same SLAs.

EDB’s pitch is architectural. Postgres holds the operational record; ClickHouse handles fast analysis of large event streams; agentic AI workloads, EDB argues, need both without endless ETL. A shared Apache Iceberg catalog and consistent access controls across the two engines are on the stated integration road map. Deployment modes listed for the wider Postgres AI system include bring-your-own-cloud, developer cloud, self-hosted Kubernetes or OpenShift, and air-gapped edge — availability of ClickHouse pieces to be detailed as offerings launch.

Why this M&A sits in a crowded analytics lane

Enterprises already stitch warehouses, lakes and operational stores. TSN has covered tools that sit across those engines, from Claude Dashboards connecting to Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift and ClickHouse to Databricks and Snowflake agentic analytics moves and Snowflake’s sovereign-cloud partnership track in France. EDB’s claim is that owning commercial Postgres depth plus Altinity’s ClickHouse practice reduces vendor sprawl for customers who want analytics and transactions under one governance story.

That claim is strategy, not a measured TCO study in the release. “Radically reduces costs” is Dallas’s phrasing; buyers will want migration calendars and dual-running costs before treating it as a budget line. IDC’s Devin Pratt, quoted by EDB, called out the familiar test: whether a multi-model vendor preserves each engine’s strengths while cutting integration burden. Jump Trading’s CTO, also quoted, said Altinity already delivers real-time analytics for the firm and is “intrigued” by Postgres-plus-ClickHouse under one roof — customer colour, not a benchmark.

The open-source politics matter as much as the SKU list. EDB bills itself as a top commercial Postgres contributor; Altinity as a major independent ClickHouse contributor. Combining them under a sovereign-AI marketing umbrella will draw scrutiny from both communities if roadmap choices favour proprietary glue over upstream work. Hodges’s continuity pledge is aimed at that anxiety as much as at renewals.

What buyers should still ask

Undisclosed deal value means investors cannot size the cheque. Q4 2026 “integrated enterprise ClickHouse capabilities” is a date, not a shipped SKU list. Open-source communities will watch whether EDB’s Postgres contribution culture and Altinity’s ClickHouse work stay additive. Existing Altinity.Cloud and operator users need the promised continuity in writing when contracts renew.

For UK and EU buyers chasing data-sovereignty language, EDB’s “sovereign AI data system” branding matches a wider market theme; local residency, certification and procurement still depend on the deployment mode chosen, not on the press headline alone.

Next markers: the Q4 ClickHouse product notice, any SEC or Companies House filings that eventually surface consideration, and whether named Altinity customers appear in joint case studies after the close.
