A group of seven banks has arranged an extra RM15 billion of financing for DayOne, the Singapore-based data-centre developer, to keep building its data-centre platform in Johor, Malaysia. That brings the total financing for the platform to RM30 billion.
The lenders announced the deal in a joint release dated 13 October 2026. Reuters, in a report carried by The Star, put the new RM15 billion at about US$3.67 billion.
The deal
According to the release, the new money is made up of:
- a US$2.4 billion offshore term loan; and
- a RM5.5 billion Murabahah facility, a form of Islamic financing.
It adds to the RM15 billion of financing DayOne secured in 2025. The seven lenders are CIMB, Crédit Agricole CIB, DBS, Maybank, OCBC, Standard Chartered and UOB. CIMB said it is the largest financier across both deals.
The lenders said the money will fund “the next phase of capacity development” across DayOne’s platform. They did not say how much data-centre capacity it will pay for.
Why Johor
Johor, just across the border from Singapore, has become Malaysia’s main data-centre hub. Reuters reported that Malaysia has attracted billions of dollars in investment from global tech firms including Amazon, Google and Microsoft.
Jasmine Zhang, head of telecom finance for Asia Pacific at Crédit Agricole CIB, said in the release that Malaysia’s data-centre supply capacity is growing at “nearly 39% CAGR from 2023 to reach 4.2–6.1 gigawatts by 2030”. Business Times reported that projection was based on Boston Consulting Group data.
DayOne was set up in 2022 and now has a presence in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Finland and Spain, according to the release.
What this means
- Banks are still lending heavily to data centres. Seven lenders have doubled DayOne’s Johor financing.
- Johor’s data-centre boom continues. The money funds the next phase of DayOne’s expansion there.
- Key details are not public. The loan terms and the capacity it will fund were not disclosed.
