Firelight: vault-level DeFi cover on Sentora, carefully described

Decentralised finance (DeFi) vaults pool deposits into strategies so users do not manage every position themselves. On 7 October 2026, Firelight—an onchain cover-enablement protocol built on Flare and incubated by Sentora—announced that its protection is live, starting with Sentora’s USD Protected Vault and Protected RWA Vaults. [1]

This explainer describes the cover product as announced. It does not explain how to attack vaults, oracles or protocols.

What kind of “cover” is this?

BeInCrypto’s advertorial-style report, drawing on Firelight’s announcement, contrasts Firelight with two common patterns: depositors buying protection alone, and vault-level schemes where the party deciding a claim is also the party that pays—or where payout capital sits in the same assets that can fall in the triggering event. Firelight says it separates those roles. [1]

Per the announcement as reported: [1]

  • Five independent firms validate every cover event against published criteria.
  • Backing capital sits outside the covered protocols.
  • Cover terms for each market—including scope, price and capacity—are registered onchain before cover is enabled.
  • Eligible event types named in the piece include smart-contract exploits, oracle failures, governance exploits, bad debt, depegs from mechanism failure, and redemption failures—defined categories, not a blank cheque for every loss.
  • Cover on the Sentora vaults is described as protection against defined technical and economic events, such as oracle manipulation, subject to pre-specified coverage limits.

When an incident occurs, the report says ZeroShadow (Firelight’s designated security partner) publishes an exploit report, and the Firelight Risk Consortium—named as Hypernative, Native, Credora, GFX Labs and Cyfrin—validates the event against published criteria and confirms loss before payouts. [1]

Connor Sullivan (Firelight) and Lucas Outumuro (Sentora) are quoted on transparent, scalable protection and on yield needing an extra protection layer—company comments. [1]

Infrastructure partners and company scale claims

Veda and Upshift integrate Firelight at the infrastructure layer so operators building on them can elect protection enablement and depositors inherit it—per the announcement. [1]

Sentora is described as the largest vault curator in DeFi, with US$2.8 billion aggregate vault TVL across more than 300 strategies—company-reported. Firelight says it is audited by OpenZeppelin, runs a public bug bounty through Immunefi, uses Flare’s FAssets infrastructure to bring XRP onchain as collateral backing cover, and recently raised US$8 million led by Gumi Cryptos Capital with Tribe Capital and Maven 11 participating—again, as stated in the piece. [1]

Broader market statistics in the article (Morpho deposit figures, oracle-attack trends, cover capital as a share of DeFi TVL) are secondary context from the same report, not independently verified here.

What this does not prove

  • That every vault loss is covered; only defined events within published limits are in scope. [1]
  • That consortium validation equals a traditional insurance policy under any particular jurisdiction’s insurance law.
  • That US$2.8bn Sentora TVL or Firelight’s raise figures have been audited in this article. [1]
  • That enabling cover removes smart-contract, oracle or market risk for depositors.

No investment advice is offered here. No how-to for exploiting covered or uncovered systems.

The Bottom Line

Firelight says vault-level onchain cover is live on Sentora’s USD Protected and Protected RWA vaults, with terms onchain, independent multi-firm event validation, and backing capital outside covered protocols—within named event types and caps. Product-launch news for DeFi risk tooling, not a guarantee against loss and not a guide to attacks.
