Google DeepMind and Google Cloud will give up to 200 European scientific researchers direct access to their most advanced AI models, along with $3 million in computing credits, Google announced on 14 October 2026.
The offer runs through RAISE, the European Union’s programme to support AI in science. Google says RAISE “seeks to help bridge the compute gap European scientists sometimes face”, meaning the shortage of computing power many researchers face. Reuters also reported the announcement.
What researchers get
According to Google, researchers will get direct access to its scientific AI tools, including:
- AlphaFold 3, which predicts the structure of proteins and other molecules;
- WeatherNext, for weather forecasting;
- AlphaGenome, for genetics research;
- AlphaEvolve; and
- AlphaEarth Foundations.
How researchers will be chosen
The European Commission will choose the researchers from among those already funded by RAISE, Google told the news agency AFP. AFP reported that Google made the announcement ahead of an AI summit in Dublin on Wednesday.
Google has not said exactly how the $3 million in credits will be shared out, or when researchers will get access.
What RAISE is
The European Commission describes RAISE as a “virtual research institute” that will pool computing power, data, talent and research funding for European researchers. Its pilot was launched in November 2025. According to the Commission, it is funded through the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, with €33 million in its first work programme and €107 million for 2026–27.
What this means
- European scientists get top-tier AI tools. Researchers who lack computing power can use Google’s leading science models.
- The Commission picks who benefits. Google is supplying the tools, but the researchers come from the EU’s own programme.
- It is a modest sum. $3 million in credits is small next to the EU’s own RAISE budget.
