The Korea Herald reported on 16 October 2026 that HD Hyundai Electric said it had partnered with LG CNS on power infrastructure for artificial-intelligence data centres and on factory automation. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, 15 October, at HD Hyundai’s Global R&D Center in Seongnam, according to the Herald’s account of HD Hyundai Electric’s Friday statement.
This is an MoU only. No orders, contract values, megawatts or delivery dates were published.
What the MoU covers
Per the Korea Herald, the deal combines HD Hyundai Electric’s power equipment and distribution systems with LG CNS’s experience designing, building and operating data centres. For AI data centres, the companies plan to:
- offer power and distribution equipment as integrated packages
- jointly pursue business opportunities in Korea and overseas
- explore putting LG CNS technology into HD Hyundai Electric’s power monitoring platform to improve data-centre power operations
The partnership also covers manufacturing: LG CNS is to use data from HD Hyundai Electric’s production facilities to apply manufacturing AI and automate logistics and production, aiming to further automate the Cheongju Power Distribution Campus, improve smart-factory operations, and standardise operations across global manufacturing sites.
What the CEOs said
HD Hyundai Electric CEO Kim Young-ki: “Through our partnership with LG CNS, we aim to improve the operational efficiency of data center power infrastructure and expand cooperation to secure new growth opportunities.”
LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-gyoon: “We will support the digital transformation of manufacturing operations and broaden our partnership to jointly pursue business opportunities in global markets.”
Where the MoU sits in the Korean stack
HD Hyundai Electric is the power-equipment arm; LG CNS is the IT services and data-centre builder/operator. The Korea Herald says the MoU was signed at HD Hyundai’s Global R&D Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, with both CEOs present for the photo opportunity. Supporting English coverage on ChosunBiz tracks the same MoU framing.
The manufacturing-AI half of the deal — Cheongju campus automation and global-site standardisation — is broader than data-centre power. It suggests LG CNS wants recurring factory-digital work inside HD Hyundai Electric’s plants even if AI-hall packages take longer to convert into orders. Still, without a published pilot site or MW figure, both halves remain intent.
How this differs from other AI power MoUs
Several vendors have announced AI data-centre power partnerships this month. This one is specifically a Korean power OEM + Korean systems integrator pairing aimed at packaged distribution gear and monitoring software, plus factory automation. It is not a turbine MoU, not a US-only alliance, and not a wafer or chip deal. Keep those lanes clear when scheduling related posts.
Why keep it as an MoU story
Integrated power packages for AI halls are a crowded pitch this month. Without a named campus, MW rating or purchase order, the news is that a Korean power-equipment maker and a Korean systems integrator intend to sell together — not that a hyperscale site has been electrified.
Context from earlier TSN coverage
TSN separately covered other vendors’ AI power MoUs: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Ingeteam and Hitachi Energy and Ansaldo Energia. Those are different companies and must not be folded into this post.
What’s still unknown
- Any first customer, site or MW target
- Commercial terms if the MoU becomes a supply contract
- How far Cheongju automation goes under the manufacturing AI piece

What this means
- MoU between HD Hyundai Electric and LG CNS on AI data-centre power packages and factory automation.
- Scope: Korea and overseas pursuit; monitoring-platform exploration; Cheongju / global-site manufacturing AI.
- No orders, values or MW disclosed.
