Privy, a company that makes crypto wallet tools for developers, is partnering with Ripple to bring Privy wallets to the XRP Ledger (XRPL), the blockchain closely associated with Ripple.
Privy announced the partnership in a blog post. It describes what developers “will be able to” do, and has not given a date for general availability.
What developers will be able to do
According to Privy, developers will be able to:
- create and manage XRPL wallets automatically through Privy;
- sign XRPL transactions;
- build with XRP, Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and other digital assets on the XRPL;
- enable x402 payments, a way for AI agents to pay for services online; and
- let users export their private keys and seed phrases, so they keep control of their funds.
Privy says embedded wallets let payments firms offer stablecoin payments without users having to manage keys themselves. It says server-side wallets can give AI agents a way to hold and spend funds. It plans to add policy controls and gas sponsorship, where an app pays transaction fees for its users.
What the companies say
“Privy brings proven wallet infrastructure that makes it easier for fintechs and developers to bring XRPL into real products, from payments and stablecoin experiences to emerging forms of agentic commerce,” said Markus Infanger, SVP of RippleX at Ripple.
“Stablecoins are changing how money moves, and XRPL has been building for payments from the start,” said Henri Stern, co-founder and CEO of Privy.
Privy says that over more than 14 years the XRPL has grown to more than 8 million funded accounts and $1 trillion in value moved. These are Privy’s figures.
What this means
- It’s coming, not live. Privy describes what developers will be able to do but has given no launch date.
- Wallets for AI agents are a growing focus. The x402 support is aimed at agents that pay for things on their own.
- Ripple is pushing XRPL for payments. The deal makes it easier for apps to use XRP and RLUSD.
