In brief
- Strategy Inc’s SEC Form 8-K (19 October 2026) says that from 12–18 October it bought 267 BTC for an aggregate $22.1 million, at an average $82,900 (fees included).
- Holdings as of 18 October: 848,517 BTC, carried at an aggregate purchase price of $64.02 billion (average $75,446, fees included).
- Separately, the board raised the digital credit securities repurchase authorisation from $2.0 billion to $3.0 billion; after the week’s STRC buys, $1.16 billion remained available.
For bitcoin-treasury watchers, this is another weekly ATM-funded add plus a larger preferred buyback sleeve — not a change in Strategy’s core “buy and hold BTC” model.

In the week of 12–18 October 2026, Strategy purchased 267 BTC using $22.0 million in net proceeds from MSTR ATM sales (140,872 Class A shares) and $0.1 million of USD Cash.

What about preferred buybacks?
Over the same week Strategy repurchased 1,938,780 shares of STRC (Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock) for $193.1 million, funded from USD Cash.
The board approved raising the aggregate purchase price authorised under the digital credit securities repurchase programme from $2.0 billion to $3.0 billion (inclusive of commissions, fees, expenses and prior repurchases). After giving effect to the increase, $1.16 billion remained available as of 18 October.
Under the separate MSTR Stock repurchase programme, $1.0 billion remained available; no MSTR shares were repurchased in the week.
Cash and reserve balances
As of 18 October 2026:
- USD Reserve: $4.83 billion (supports preferred dividends and debt interest)
- USD Cash: $447.3 million
During the week Strategy used $45.5 million of the USD Reserve to pay preferred dividends, and $193.1 million of USD Cash for the STRC repurchases.
Who is affected?
- MSTR and preferred holders tracking dilution, ATM use and buyback capacity
- Bitcoin treasury peers benchmarking weekly accumulation pace
- Analysts modelling Strategy’s USD Reserve cover for preferred dividends
Our read
The 267 BTC add is small next to an 848k stack, but the $3.0bn preferred buyback cap is the structural move: Strategy is widening the sleeve it can use to support digital credit securities while still ATM-funding bitcoin. Watch the residual $1.16bn preferred capacity and the $447.3m USD Cash balance if STRC buybacks stay this size.
What’s still unknown?
- Whether the larger preferred authorisation will be used at a higher weekly pace
- Future ATM volume needed to fund the next BTC tranche
- How markets price STRC after the repurchase print
