Crypto payments network Mesh said on 19 October 2026 that it has partnered with Visa to make crypto and stablecoin balances spendable wherever Visa is accepted, in shops and online. The idea is that a consumer pays straight from the balance already sitting in their wallet app, without selling, transferring or preloading funds, and without signing up for a separate crypto card. For merchants, nothing changes: they receive a standard Visa payment.
The reach on paper is large. The release says Visa’s network spans upwards of 175 million merchant locations in more than 200 countries and territories, with $14.2 trillion in payments volume in fiscal 2025. But no participating wallets, supported devices or launch dates have been announced yet, so for now this is a plan rather than something users can try.
In brief
- Mesh and Visa announced a partnership to let consumers spend crypto and stablecoin balances from their wallet apps at Visa-accepting merchants, online and in store.
- Mesh handles funding and conversion while a Visa credential is provisioned behind the scenes; merchants need no new hardware.
- Participating wallets, supported devices and initial availability have not been announced; the 175 million merchant figure is the release’s.
How the payment is meant to work
Mesh says participating wallets and platforms will offer a “pay-from-balance” option. Behind the scenes a Visa credential is provisioned, so the consumer taps at a standard contactless terminal or checks out online as usual. Mesh then orchestrates how each transaction is funded and converted across supported balances, including crypto, stablecoins and fiat.
For wallet providers, the pitch is a shortcut. Instead of building and running their own card programme, a platform can plug into Visa through a single Mesh integration. Mesh says it will act as programme manager, handling user onboarding and know-your-customer (KYC) checks. A consumer with money in several connected wallets could, in time, spend from each of them without carrying a separate card.
“Crypto never had a spending problem — it has a last-mile problem, and until now, closing it meant getting a separate card,” said Bam Azizi, Mesh’s chief executive and co-founder. Rubail Birwadker, Visa’s global head of growth, said working with Mesh “helps expand how digital asset balances can connect to the trusted payment experiences consumers and merchants rely on every day.”
Who is involved, and what is missing
Mesh says more than 200 enterprises already use its network and names partners including Kalshi, Tools for Humanity, Félix Pago, Majority and KAST. It says that through those partners its network reaches hundreds of millions of users, a company figure. The release does not say which of these platforms, if any, will switch on Visa spending first.
That gap matters. The release states that initial availability, supported devices and participating platforms “will be announced as rollout details are finalized”. There is also no word on fees, conversion spreads, spending limits or which countries come first. Until those details arrive, the 175 million merchant locations describe Visa’s acceptance footprint, not live coverage for Mesh users.
The deal fits a busy week for stablecoin payments. Mastercard announced a stablecoin risk-screening tool on the same day, and Coinbase and Thunes unveiled a payout partnership, both covered by TSN.
Our read
Spending straight from a wallet balance, with the card hidden, is the cleanest attempt yet to make crypto feel like an ordinary payment method. For compliance teams, the important detail is that Mesh takes on programme-manager duties, including KYC, so onboarding standards and transaction monitoring will sit with Mesh rather than each wallet. The real test is the first named wallet and launch market; until then, this is a partnership announcement, not a product.
