Musk Says Optimus and Cybercab Will Be Most of Tesla’s Value

Elon Musk wrote on 18 October 2026 (05:01 UTC / 06:01 BST), in a reply on X: “Optimus and Cybercab will be the vast majority of Tesla’s value.”

That is Musk’s claim. The post gives no percentages, dollar figures or timelines. TSN is not endorsing a valuation split.

Exact wording

Replying to @Teslaconomics, Musk continued: “The only things that will scale to incredible size (K2 and beyond) economically are super intelligence, robots, solar power and mass to space. And, of course, if you have the first two, the rest will follow.”

“K2” is unexplained in the post. Do not invent a meaning. The Teslaconomics thread floated Tesla–SpaceX combination ideas; Musk’s reply does not address a merger.

Only the X API text above is used here. An extra Roadster line quoted by some secondary blogs was not present in the API read of this post, so it is omitted.

Calendar context (Tesla IR)

Tesla Investor Relations (production/deliveries release dated 2 October 2026) states Tesla will post Q3 2026 financial results after market close on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, with a live Q&A webcast at 4:30 p.m. Central Time (5:30 p.m. Eastern / 22:30 BST). That is confirmed IR scheduling — not a restatement of Musk’s Optimus/Cybercab claim.

Why it matters

Musk has long argued Tesla’s long-term value sits in autonomy and humanoids more than in today’s car margins. Read this X reply as rhetoric ahead of earnings week, not as a disclosed financial segment.

What’s still unknown

  • Any board- or filing-level valuation of Optimus or Cybercab
  • What Musk means by “K2 and beyond”
  • Whether Q3 commentary on 21 October will quantify robotaxi or Optimus

What this means

Via @elonmusk, Musk asserts that Optimus and Cybercab will be “the vast majority of Tesla’s value” — a personal claim without numbers, posted days before Tesla’s scheduled 21 October Q3 results release (Tesla IR).
