Prime Intellect has acquired Moondream, the open vision-language model company. In a blog post dated 13 October 2026, Prime said founders Vik Korrapati and Jay Allen are joining “to lead and scale inference, and to accelerate our work on multimodal models, including vision and computer use.” Deal terms were not disclosed.
Moondream confirmed the acquisition on 14 October 2026 and said its models “will remain open.”
What happens to Moondream Cloud
Moondream said that on 13 November 2026, 30 days from its post, the Moondream Cloud (inference and Lens) will shut down. Unspent purchased credits will be refunded, and customers will be helped to migrate to Prime.
Prime said Moondream 3.1 is already available through Prime Inference, powered by Moondream’s Photon engine, and that Moondream will remain its brand for small, efficient multimodal models.
Performance claims — whose figures they are
Prime says Moondream 3.1 leads on several vision tasks and does so at “34 requests per second, about 24x faster than the next most accurate open model,” citing Moondream’s own blog.
Separately, Prime says that compared with Meta’s Muse Wonder, Moondream 3.1 “reaches 80% of its accuracy at pointing at objects in photos, at about 1/1000th of the cost.” That comparison is Prime Intellect’s own unpublished internal evaluation from October 2026. It is not an independent benchmark.
Prime also cites Moondream’s unpublished measurements that, on a single H100, Photon “runs more than 60 Moondream inferences per second.”
What this means
- The acquisition is confirmed by both sides. Terms are undisclosed.
- The Muse Wonder cost/accuracy line is Prime’s internal work. Do not treat it as a third-party eval.
- Cloud customers have a hard date. Moondream Cloud shuts on 13 November 2026, with credit refunds promised.
