Announced by Promise Robotics on 13 October 2026. Statements marked COMPANY CLAIM come from the press release and have not been independently checked.
Promise Robotics, a company that uses robots and AI to make parts of houses in factories, has signed a multi-year commercial agreement with D.R. Horton [1].
Under the deal, D.R. Horton will use Promise Robotics’ “Factory-as-a-Service” (FaaS) to support the production of “1,250+ homes” [1]. The release was issued from Phoenix at 09:05 ET (14:05 BST).
The release describes D.R. Horton as “America’s largest homebuilder by volume” and says it is “the first major U.S. homebuilder to utilize the company’s production platform” [1].
What is Factory-as-a-Service?
Building a factory full of robots is expensive. FaaS is Promise Robotics’ way of renting out that capacity instead. A builder hands over its existing home designs, and Promise’s software turns them into production plans and instructions for robots. Promise then runs the factory work and links it up with installation on the building site [1].
The company says this lets builders “access automated production capacity without developing and operating their own factories” [1]. It calls its approach “physical AI”, meaning AI that controls machines doing real-world work, rather than software alone.
What the two companies said
“Homebuilding has long lacked the production infrastructure needed to scale with the speed, predictability, and efficiency of modern manufacturing,” said Ramtin Attar, CEO and co-founder of Promise Robotics [1].
“At D.R. Horton, we are always looking for innovations that can help us improve how we build,” said Brad Conlon, Senior Vice President, Strategic Growth and Innovation at D.R. Horton. “Promise Robotics’ integrated platform gives us a new capability to support those goals” [1].
What we don’t know
The release does not give the value of the deal, how long it runs, which states or housing developments are involved, or exactly which parts of each home will be made in Promise’s factories.
What this means
- Robots are moving into house building. A big U.S. builder is putting robotic factory production to work on at least 1,250 homes.
- Builders can rent instead of build. FaaS lets a homebuilder try factory production without the cost of owning a factory.
- Details are thin. Without a timeline or price, it is too early to judge how big a shift this is for D.R. Horton.
