CONFIRMED: This is based on Scaleway’s own release, issued in Paris on 13 October 2026 at its ai-PULSE 2026 event. Plans and ambitions are the company’s claims. Scaleway gave no investment figure, no GPU count for Stockholm, no megawatts per site and no go-live dates for the new GPU clusters.
Scaleway, the French cloud provider owned by iliad Group, says it is adding new GPU clusters in Sweden and Denmark, finishing a full cloud region in Italy and opening more zones in Sweden and Germany next year [1].
The two new GPU clusters
Scaleway calls these “GPU Zones”: data centre capacity set aside for training and running large AI models [1]. It announced two:
- Stockholm: “a new AMD Instinct™ MI355X GPU cluster”. Scaleway says its ambition is to deliver “one of the first computing infrastructures of its kind from a European cloud provider” [1]. It did not say how many GPUs this cluster will have.
- Copenhagen: “a new NVIDIA B300 cluster, featuring several thousand GPUs” [1]. It did not give an exact number.
Scaleway already has a GPU Zone in Paris. With Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm, it says it is building infrastructure that “will eventually represent tens of thousands of GPUs, tens of exaflops of computing power and tens of megawatts of capacity” [1].
That is a long-term ambition, not today’s capacity. Scaleway did not say when the clusters will go live, how much power each site will draw or how much it is spending.
The company says offering both AMD and NVIDIA chips gives customers “freedom to choose” the hardware that suits them [1].
More cloud zones: Milan now, Stockholm and Frankfurt in 2027
An Availability Zone is a separate data centre site. Spreading work across several zones keeps services running if one site fails.
- Milan: Scaleway is opening two new zones, “bringing the total to three in its first Italian cloud region” [1]. Three separate zones make Milan what Scaleway calls “a fully fledged cloud region”.
- 2027: Scaleway plans “three Availability Zones in Stockholm, Sweden, and three additional zones in Frankfurt, Germany” — six new zones in all [1].
Models and European chips
- More models: Scaleway says “more than 40 models are now available through its Generative APIs” [1]. New ones announced at ai-PULSE are LightOn OCR 3, from French company LightOn, which reads text and pulls information from complex documents; DeepSeek V4.1-Flash, which Scaleway says has built-in image understanding; and GLM 5.3 from Z.ai, which it describes as suited to coding and multi-step AI-agent tasks [1].
- A European inference chip: with VSORA and ZML, Scaleway says it is “contributing to the development of a new European AI inference offering based on the Jotunn8 processor” [1]. (Inference means running a trained model to answer requests.)
- Tools: Scaleway says its Data & AI Platform gained “around ten” new products and features, its inference service now supports cached tokens and customizable rate limits, and Dataiku customers “will soon be able” to run Dataiku’s platform on Scaleway’s cloud [1].
Longer-term bets
- Qarnot Computing, which Scaleway acquired in July 2026, builds computing systems that reuse server heat for heating. In Brescia, Italy, Qarnot works with A2A to feed the city’s district heating network [1].
- Quantum Builders Program: a credit-based scheme giving startups and companies access to different quantum computers and emulators [1].
- Unified Computing Service, “planned for 2027”, which Scaleway says will let developers run programs across CPU, GPU and quantum resources without managing the hardware [1].
- Partnerships with Presage, a French world-model company, on forecasting cloud workloads, and with Alatyr, to study computing and storage in orbit, with what Scaleway calls “the long-term ambition of operating its cloud services in space” [1].
Scaleway also says it and iliad Group take part in the European AI Gigafactory project [1].
What this means
- Two named GPU sites, one with a rough size. Copenhagen gets “several thousand” NVIDIA B300 GPUs. Stockholm gets AMD MI355X GPUs, number not given.
- The big numbers are goals. “Tens of thousands of GPUs” and “tens of megawatts” describe where Scaleway wants to end up, with no date attached.
- Key details are missing. There is no investment figure, no power figure per site and no go-live date for either cluster.
- Milan is the near-term change. It becomes a three-zone region now; Stockholm and Frankfurt zones are planned for 2027.
