SpaceX Says Grok Bot Doubled to 800,000 Paid Weekly Users in a Month

SpaceX has put its first usage number on Grok Bot, the AI agent product it launched in August. “We already had paid weekly users of 800,000 earlier this month, more than doubling over the last month,” president Gwynne Shotwell told analysts on the company’s third-quarter earnings call on 20 October, according to the call transcript.

The number matters because it is the first sign of how many people are paying for the agents SpaceX has been building since it absorbed xAI, and because Elon Musk is now telling investors Grok Bot could become the biggest user of the company’s vast computing capacity. It came in spoken remarks, not in the written results: SpaceX’s quarterly filing names Grok Bot only as one driver of AI revenue, with no user count. The figure comes without a definition or a baseline

SpaceX did not say what counts as a “paid weekly user”: whether it means individual subscribers, enterprise seats, or anyone on a paid plan who used Grok Bot in a given week. Nor did it give the absolute number for the month before, so “more than doubling” implies something under 400,000 in early September without pinning it down. “Earlier this month” is as precise as the company got on timing.

Shotwell described business customers as the main engine. “B2B is our fastest-growing category, with companies increasingly using Grok Bot as a force multiplier across sales, marketing, IT, and engineering, treating it as an always-on teammate for complex end-to-end workflows,” she said. She added that Grok enterprise customers with more than $1 million in run-rate revenue, including the coding tool Cursor that SpaceX bought in August, were up 50% on the previous quarter on a pro forma basis.

Musk went further. “We’re seeing the fastest growth of a product that I’ve ever seen in my life for Grok Bot. I’ve never seen anything grow this fast,” he said, adding that people use it more each week the longer they have it, “not use it less”.

Enterprise roll-out is wider, not new

Musk said SpaceX would be “deploying Grok Bot at scale for enterprise customers”, describing a product that companies could use in teams “as though it were a virtual human”. “We already are in early deployment with some trusted customers, and we expect to be in wide deployment within a few weeks,” he said.

That is a broadening rather than a debut. The company announced Grok Bot for Enterprise on 3 September, adding access, network and audit controls for companies and offering Grok and Cursor enterprise customers two weeks of free use. At the time it said “thousands of organizations” had adopted the product, naming Legora, Supermicro and ServiceTitan. Shotwell also pointed to last week’s move to put Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium on a single X Subscription plan, which gives SpaceX a route to sell the agent to people who already pay for the other products.

The compute angle is where the claim gets its weight. “I think Grok Bot may end up being what uses most of our SI compute,” Musk said, referring to the Super Intelligence segment that out-earned Starlink in the quarter, as TSN reported in its coverage of the results. Each Bot runs on its own cloud computer, according to the September announcement, so heavier use per person is likely to mean more demand on SpaceX’s data centres.

SpaceX has not said what Grok Bot earns per user or how much of the segment’s revenue it accounts for. The figure that would settle how much of Musk’s enthusiasm is borne out is a user number in a filing, with a definition attached. The next chance is SpaceX’s fourth-quarter results. The nearer test is Musk’s own deadline: wide enterprise deployment “within a few weeks” of 20 October.
