Vercel’s eve Is an Open-Source Framework for Building AI Agents; It Is in Public Preview, and the Claims Are Vercel’s

Vercel announced eve, an open-source agent framework, on 17 June 2026 [1]. Its blog opens: “Today, we are proud to introduce eve, an open-source agent framework for building, running, and scaling agents.” [1] The code is public on GitHub [3].

Confirmed: Vercel announced it (blog, docs and public repository). It is a preview; what it can do is Vercel’s claim.

What it is

An AI agent is a program in which a model chooses steps and calls tools to get a job done. An agent framework supplies the standard parts so each team does not rebuild them. Vercel’s docs call eve “an open-source, filesystem-first framework” for “durable backend AI agents” [2].

“Filesystem-first” means an agent is a folder of files. Instructions and skills are Markdown, tools are TypeScript, and eve wires them up from their names and places [1]. “Durable” means work survives interruptions. Vercel says “every conversation is a durable workflow with each step checkpointed, so a session can pause, survive a crash or a deploy, and resume exactly where it stopped” [1].

Trying it

Vercel says: “The public preview is open today, and the CLI wizard walks you through your first agent, from picking a model to a running dev server, in under a minute.” [1] The command is npx eve@latest init my-agent [1][2].

A public preview is an early version anyone may try before it is final. Vercel’s docs label eve beta and say “the framework, APIs, documentation, and behavior may change before general availability” [2].

The repository

GitHub shows vercel/eve as public under the Apache-2.0 licence, mostly TypeScript, created on 16 June 2026. Its latest release, eve@0.76.3, is dated 10 October 2026 [3]. Vercel says eve includes sandboxed code execution, approval steps and subagents, and that it runs “more than a hundred agents in production” on it [1]. TSN has not run eve.

What is not known

  • Independent use. TSN has not verified that any outside users or reviews exist.
  • Production readiness. The blog says production is “built in”; the docs say beta.
  • Cost. The docs say usage is billed through Vercel services and model providers, with no rates on that page [4]. At launch, Vercel says, eve deploys to Vercel, with other platforms “on the way” [1].
  • Vercel AI SDK. The pages read do not say how eve relates to it.
