Zoom’s latest pitch starts where the video call ends. At its Zoomtopia customer conference on Tuesday, the company made clear it wants to be judged on the work that follows a meeting, not the meeting itself.
The company unveiled a Unified Context Layer that pulls together what is said in meetings, phone calls, chats and contact-centre conversations with company documents and data held in outside business systems. Zoom says that shared record gives people and AI agents enough background to turn a discussion into finished work, and it is opening that record to rival AI tools rather than keeping it inside its own app. “Many companies have solved how to capture conversations. The harder problem, and the one that actually determines whether AI delivers value, is what happens next,” said Russell Dicker, Zoom’s chief product officer.
Zoom’s context will flow into Claude, ChatGPT and Codex
The most consequential change may be the plumbing. Conversation data from Zoom can be reached through connectors built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for linking AI tools to data, and through APIs, so it can be used inside platforms such as Claude, ChatGPT and Codex, according to Zoom’s product announcement. Its Search & Ask APIs, which query the context layer directly, are live for Claude, GPT, Codex, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Slackbot, among others.
From November, users should also be able to start Zoom workflows from Claude and Codex, automating meeting, chat and phone tasks and even updating customer-relationship records. Zoom calls this a “headless” approach: the value sits in the data, whichever app the user happens to be in.
Inside Zoom Workplace, the new ZoomMate Agent Teams are available now. A lead AI agent splits a project between specialised agents working in parallel, then gathers their output into one deliverable for a person to review. Agentic search, also live, looks for answers across Zoom Meetings, Phone and Chat and more than 40 third-party apps, including ServiceNow, Workday, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
Most of the other features are months away
Beyond those pieces, much of what Zoom showed is on a roadmap rather than in customers’ hands. Its own dates run like this:
| Expected | Features (Zoom’s timetable) |
|---|---|
| Now | ZoomMate Agent Teams, agentic search, Search & Ask APIs, MCP servers |
| October 2026 | My Notes Workflows, which send meeting summaries to tools such as Salesforce |
| November 2026 | Launching Zoom workflows from Claude and Codex; DTEN Action Card; Customer Profiles in Zoom CX |
| December 2026 | My Notes mobile app for in-person meetings; Follow Meeting; new Zoom Chat; deepfake risk detection |
| Q1 2027 | Live Meeting AI Agent; AI Guardrails; Bota wearables |
Some of these reach well beyond the screen. The My Notes mobile app will record and transcribe in-person conversations without the full Zoom client, and Follow Meeting lets the tool attend a meeting on a user’s behalf, sending a personalised transcript and summary afterwards. Hardware partners DTEN and Bota are building pocket and wearable recorders that feed straight into My Notes.
More capture means more to govern, and Zoom is pairing the launches with controls: central management of AI features, account-level guardrails on what AI can generate, Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels and a deepfake risk detection tool for hiring, customer service and meetings. That tool will sit alongside a third-party option, World ID for Zoom, which checks that meeting participants are verified humans and, World said on 18 October, is now available to Zoom’s enterprise customers through the Zoom Marketplace.
Customer service is where Zoom expects the payoff
For contact centres, the pitch is a customer who no longer has to repeat themselves. “Every interaction a customer has with a business, whether it’s a call, chat, kiosk visit, or conversation with a virtual agent, generates context that should make the next one smarter,” Chris Morrissey, general manager of Zoom CX, told CX Today. Dynamic customer profiles drawing on CRM data and past interactions are due across Zoom Contact Center and Zoom Phone from November.
CX Today also noted that questions remain around availability, integrations, governance and how reliably Zoom can turn scattered company data into something usable. Zoom, which says it expects annual revenue to pass $5bn this year, gave no prices for the new tools. The first real test arrives in November, when the Claude and Codex workflows and customer profiles are due to switch on.
