Amazon Is Reportedly in Talks to Buy AI Startup Decart for Around $7 Billion

Amazon is in talks to acquire the artificial intelligence startup Decart in a deal that could be valued at around $7 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. The paper published the report on Sunday 11 October 2026 (21:26 London time), citing people familiar with the matter [1]. No deal has been announced.

REPORTED: this comes from unnamed sources in a Wall Street Journal exclusive. Neither company has confirmed it. TSN has not read all of the WSJ article, only the part visible without a subscription [1].

What is reported

The WSJ says Amazon “is in talks to acquire artificial-intelligence startup Decart in a deal that could be valued at around $7 billion, according to people familiar with the matter” [1]. It describes Decart’s software as something that “makes it easier for developers to switch between different AI chips” [1].

Reuters relayed the report and said it “could not immediately verify the report” [2].

What is not known

The sources are not named. Talks can fall apart, and a report of talks is not a deal. “Could be valued at around $7 billion” is the report’s own wording: TSN does not know whether that is a price or a valuation, and has seen no other terms.

What Amazon and Decart have said

Reuters says Decart and Amazon “did not respond to requests for comment” [2]. TSN also looked for a statement on the night of 11 October and found none. It checked Amazon’s newsroom and press site, Decart’s website and blog, and Decart’s X account, @DecartAI. The newest items on those pages are older than the report and do not mention it [3].

Background on Decart

Decart describes itself as “a frontier, vertically integrated AI research lab building real-time video and world models, along with the ultra-optimized infrastructure to power them” [4]. In a blog post dated 18 May 2026, it said it had raised $300 million in a round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia among the new investors [4]. The same post calls Amazon “one of Decart’s strategic customers” [4]. That is Decart’s own statement from May. It does not mention a deal.
