Binance announced on 15 October 2026 that it is expanding its Stock Options offering with two seller-side strategies: Covered Call and Cash-Secured Put. The announcement opens with a standard caveat that products and services “may not be available in your region.”
This post covers the options write strategies only. It is not an update to Binance’s tokenised bStocks AUM story (TSN 22150).
How the two strategies work
Per Binance’s announcement and its Covered Call & Cash-Secured Put FAQ:
- Covered Call: you hold shares of the underlying stock and sell a call against those shares, collecting a premium. If assigned, the shares are sold at the strike. Upside above the strike is capped; the premium offsets part of downside.
- Cash-Secured Put: you sell a put while setting aside the full cash needed to buy the shares if assigned, collecting a premium. Collateral is USDC. If assigned, you buy the underlying at the strike even if the market is lower.
Collateral is frozen when the sell-to-open order is placed and stays reserved while the short is open. Only limit orders are supported. For most US equity options, trading hours are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET; certain ETF/ETN options may trade until 4:15 PM ET.
Users must have Stock Options enabled — typically via an Options Suitability Quiz and disclaimer — and see a risk notice the first time they sell to open.
Binance does not hold the securities — Nest Trading and Alpaca do
The announcement’s disclaimer is explicit: Nest Trading Limited acts as introducing broker and routes Stock Options orders to Alpaca Securities LLC for execution, clearing, settlement and custody. “Binance does not handle or custody your Securities.” Physical delivery of underlying shares is custodied by Alpaca on behalf of Binance users, per the same materials and the Stock Options FAQ.
That broker stack is the same pattern Binance uses for cash-equity Stock Trading: the UI sits on Binance; the securities sit with Alpaca via Nest Trading.
Geographic and US-person limits
TSN checked the product FAQs and announcement language:
- The 15 October announcement states products “may not be available in your region.”
- Binance’s Stock Trading FAQ says service availability “may vary by jurisdiction” and that users in certain countries or regions may not access Stock Trading, pointing readers to the Securities Trading Product Terms for restricted jurisdictions (and to in-app account notices).
- The dedicated Covered Call & Cash-Secured Put FAQ explains mechanics and collateral but does not, in the published FAQ text, spell out a separate US-person clause.
- When Binance first launched Stock Options more broadly, a 1 September 2026 Binance PR Newswire release stated: “Binance does not offer these products to U.S. users,” describing access for eligible users outside the United States through the Nest/Alpaca structure.
Readers should treat eligibility as jurisdiction- and account-specific, confirm in-app availability, and read the current Securities Trading / Stock Options product terms — not assume every Binance account can write calls or puts.
Why it matters
Seller-side equity options are a TradFi income and entry-price toolkit. Putting Covered Calls and Cash-Secured Puts next to crypto and other Binance TradFi products is another step in that multi-asset pitch — while the legal and custody reality remains that US-listed options and shares clear through Alpaca, not Binance’s crypto wallet. Keep this distinct from tokenised stock products such as bStocks or OKX’s xStocks, which have different rights and risk profiles.
What’s still unknown
- The full live list of underlyings eligible for Covered Call / Cash-Secured Put on day one
- Whether every jurisdiction that can buy long options can also write these strategies
- Fee schedules beyond the general Stock Options fee page referenced in FAQs
What to watch
Watch Binance’s Stock Options fee page and any updates to the Securities Trading Product Terms’ restricted-jurisdiction list, and watch whether assignment and auto-liquidation behaviour draws user complaints in the first weeks.
What this means
- Two new short strategies on Binance Stock Options: Covered Call (shares) and Cash-Secured Put (USDC).
- Custody is with Alpaca via Nest Trading — Binance says it does not handle or custody the securities.
- Regional limits apply; US-user exclusion was stated for the Stock Options product family in Binance’s September launch PR; always check current FAQ/terms and the app.
