Venture Global Signs Frame Agreements for Up to 16 Gas-Fired Power Islands

Venture Global has entered into power and grid frame agreements with GE Vernova and Baker Hughes Energy Services for up to 16 new 720 MW power island units and associated transformer equipment. The company’s release is dated 15 October 2026. The deals support expansion of Venture Global’s existing behind-the-meter, Island-Mode industrial power network — a private gas-fired system that is not reliant on the public grid.

These are frame agreements, not firm purchase orders. They create a path to reserve manufacturing capacity over time; Venture Global says it currently expects to place its first power island purchase order by the end of 2026.

Keep power and compute separate

The release mixes two ideas that should stay distinct:

  • Power: up to 16 additional 720 MW Island-Mode units. The company says those units would be combined-cycle gas turbines and related equipment, matching its existing configuration. A headline bullet also speaks of supporting development of “over 10 GW of new Island-Mode power capacity.”
  • Compute: separately, the agreements provide a pathway to make up to 10 GW of new compute capacity available over time at sites Venture Global owns or controls. The body says the company “anticipates that it will be able to develop up to 10GW of compute capacity by the end of 2034,” subject to customer commitments, market demand and other commercial considerations.

No data-centre customers are named. Staged build-out depends on commercial arrangements. Do not treat the 10 GW compute figure as ordered megawatts of turbines, or the 16 islands as already purchased machines.

What already exists

Venture Global says it already has about 4.5 gigawatts of Island-Mode modular gas-fired generation — six power islands ordered, in construction or operating — that supply its LNG facilities entirely behind the meter. The new frame deals would add incremental dedicated on-site infrastructure. With Island-Mode power, the company says expansion would place no additional demand on the public electric grid or public water utilities and therefore no added cost to local consumers. Those are company statements.

CEO framing

CEO Mike Sabel said Venture Global has built “one of the world’s largest private industrial electric grids” for its LNG export business, and that by providing Island-Mode generation, gas supply, closed-loop water, land and data-centre infrastructure, the company “is creating a vertically integrated AI utility that could solve for the many chokepoints associated with the AI buildout.”

The company also stresses that its LNG business and existing sales agreements are unaffected: any third-party Island-Mode power development would be separate from and complementary to LNG operations.

Permitting

Venture Global says it will work with federal, state and local regulators and that it will file its first permit applications this week.

Why it matters

Behind-the-meter gas power for AI campuses has become a recurring TSN theme — from Enerflex’s on-site gas backlog to Wärtsilä/Schneider/Stanley “generator-to-chip” packaging and Fermi/AMD credit support in Texas. Venture Global’s twist is an LNG exporter offering frame capacity on its own Island-Mode platform rather than a pure data-centre developer ordering turbines.

Caveats

Frame agreements ≠ orders. Power is gas-fired. The 10 GW compute timeline is forward-looking and customer-dependent. Headline “over 10 GW” power language and body “up to 10 GW” compute language are different; keep them apart.

What to watch next

  • Whether a definitive reservation or purchase order lands by end-2026
  • Named compute or data-centre counterparties
  • Permit filings and locations for new islands
